Two representatives, both women, were elected as the class heads for the Engineering Department in Nagoya University, marking a significant milestone for gender equality in STEM fields in Japan. These successful election results emerged from a traditionally male-dominated field and have caught nationwide attention. The women's accomplishments are set to inspire more women to consider a career path in STEM.

In Japan, like many parts of the world, the STEM fields have been predominantly male. Recently, however, there has been a surge in initiatives to promote gender equality in these sectors. The election of two women as class representatives in the Engineering Department of a prestigious institution, Nagoya University, is a big step in this direction that is enthusiastically welcomed within the community.

Compared to the US or EU, where forward steps have been taken to increase female representation in STEM, Japan has been slower in this pursuit. But this milestone at Nagoya University showcases that the country is progressing in the right direction.
