Pollen Tsunami Strikes Eastern Japan

In an ongoing seasonal predicament, the regions of Kanto and Tokai in Eastern Japan have witnessed a massive pollen dispersal on the 23rd. Hay fever sufferers face increased symptoms with the onslaught of the 'pollen tsunami'. Health officials advise locals to take necessary precautions including the use of masks, specially during peak dispersal hours, and the consumption of appropriate medication.

In Japan, pollen from cedar and cypress trees are the main trigger for seasonal allergies. The communities are greatly affected by this with roughly one-fourth of the population suffering from hay fever. Various preventive measures are taken such as wearing masks and goggles outdoors, using air purifiers indoors, and taking antihistamines.

In contrast, the United States and European countries face different sources of allergens, predominantly grasses, weeds, and molds. Furthermore, the usage of allergy masks is not as common as it is in Japan.
